Hello Africa!

It is a new week and it is positive vibes all the way.

We kick-off this week’s big 5 Daily with news from Kenya’s Mpost as reports have it that it has emerged winner at the 2018 South Africa Innovation Summit held in Cape Town, South Africa.

MPost, which allows users access postal services via their mobile devices defeated 24 other start-ups to emerge winner and will now represent Africa at the Start-up World Cup holding at San Francisco in May 2019. Huge congratulations to them.

South Africa’s Atura, an automated chatbot for asset management companies, has secured an undisclosed Series-A investment led by Blue Garnet Investments, an investment company that counts Investec and local investment fund Crossfin amongst other investors.

Atura is a separate company owned by Cape Town software firm New Media Labs (NML), which was founded in 2007.

In the same vein, US money transfer company; MoneyGram and Ghana’s Zeepay have announced a new partnership deal which enables customers across the Globe to send money directly to over 11 million mobile wallets in Ghana.

MoneyGram becomes the only money transfer provider in the Ghana to offer consumers three different options to pick up funds from over 200 countries around the world.

Still on money, Kaspersky Lab has unveiled a global cybersecurity competition called Secur’IT CUP. The challenge is meant for youngster between the age of 18 -28 and aims to address cybersecurity issues in connected health, internet of things and personal security.

Lastly. MTN Group Limited and African mobile communications company, Vodacom are working together with Apple Inc. to provide eSIMs for its users, says MyBroadband. The eSIM is an embedded SIM which is built into a device and needs to be enabled by a mobile network to function.

Recall our review on the latest iPhones, the phones feature eSIM technology – with a dual-SIM set-up consisting of a single physical SIM and one eSIM. It seems the world is now moving in that direction.

….and that’s all for today.

Let’s keep innovating.

Have an awesome and productive week ahead, see you tomorrow.
